We want your views on improving transport on the A4 into Reading

We are working in partnership with Reading Borough Council to improve transport into Reading along the A4. Both councils have received funding from the Department for Transport to improve bus travel, which has paid for the work so far and will fund the proposed scheme.

In the Wokingham Local Transport Plan 2025 we set out how a good transport system is essential for a thriving society. The plan recognises the need to balance car use with walking, cycling and public transport. It forms part of our pledge to be a borough where everyone has equal access to opportunities so they can thrive.

Reading’s Local Transport Plan, The Reading Transport Strategy 2040, sets out a vision to create healthier, greener and more equal communities through the provision of travel options in Reading. The plan is focused on promoting sustainable transport options as a realistic alternative to the private car and seeks to maximise the performance of the network to aid the movement of people.

We want your views on a set of proposals to improve the Sutton Seeds Roundabout and the existing bus lane on the A4 London Road near the Wokingham and Reading borders.

The benefits

The scheme would amend the existing bus lane in Reading Borough and change the road layout in Wokingham Borough on the A4 London Road and at the Sutton Seeds Roundabout. This design would aim to improve journey times for everyone and increase the reliability of buses by removing some of the conflict between buses and other vehicles that exists with the current layout.
