School admissions

We are consulting on our 'Co-ordinated Schemes for Admission to Primary and Secondary Schools' incorporating our admission arrangements for 2023/2024 and invite you to give your views.

The consultation is open until 17 January 2022.

Prior to submitting comments below, it may be helpful to read a summary of the consultation and the proposed admission arrangements.

Key proposed changes for 2023-2024 include:

  • Slight amendment to the timeline of the co-ordinated admissions arrangement timetable
  • There are proposals for three LA-maintained primary schools to reduce their Published Admission Number (PAN) for entry into reception in September 2023. Any potential reduction would be undertaken on the basis that the school would agree to increase numbers if/when extra capacity was needed. This would be in anticipation that additional places will still be required in these planning areas in future.
  • There is a proposal to increase the Designated Area of Farley Hill Primary School to include two additional areas:
  1. Sherman Avenue, Fox Close and Archer Grove
  2. Poperinghe Way and Highfield Park
  • There is a proposal to confirm the address for the new Farley Hill Primary School site as Baston Road, Arborfield Green, RG2 9YW for measurement purposes.
  • There is a proposal that the Planned Admission Number for 2022/23 for Farley Hill Primary School is increased to 60.
  • There are no changes to the oversubscription criteria for the admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools 2023-2024. There are minor changes to the wording/phrasing of published school admission arrangements which were required to be written in line with guidance from the Department for Education. Changes were also made for clarification, defining key terminology and the changing dates for the admissions process.

 Background information

The School Admissions Code requires all admission authorities to consult on any changes proposed to their admission arrangements.  A copy of the full proposed admission arrangements must also be available on the website for the duration of the consultation period.

Own admission authorities

Other types of schools - academies, foundation, studio, trust and voluntary aided schools are own admission authorities. These schools are responsible for their own admission arrangements and have to run their own consultation if changes are proposed. You would need to visit individual school websites for details.
