Wokingham Borough Council is in the process of preparing a new local plan – the Local Plan Update.

This sets out the planning policies the council will use to manage development across the borough. Once adopted, it will replace the policies set out in the council’s current local plans.

The council has now published the next version of the plan, known as the Proposed Submission Plan (Regulation 19), for comment.

Publication

The Proposed Submission Plan and all supporting documents may be viewed on our website.

A selection are also listed for viewing below.

How to make comments

At this stage, comments are invited on the Proposed Submission Plan within the remit of legal compliance and the tests of soundness, as set out in national planning policy.

These tests form the basis against which the plan is assessed at examination.

Anyone wishing to respond is strongly advised to read the guidance notes on making representations, which provide more detail on these matters.

Submission of representations using the online form is strongly encouraged. However, a representation form is also available.

This can be filled in and emailed to LPU@wokingham.gov.uk or printed and posted to: Local Plan Update, Planning Policy, Wokingham Borough Council offices, Shute End, Wokingham, Berkshire RG40 1BN.

Representations received after 5PM on Wednesday 13 November 2024 will not be accepted, nor will any anonymous comments.

Executive set to approve consultation

4 November 2021 - 21 November 2021

We’re preparing to seek your views on our Local Plan Update: Revised Growth Strategy, which will be the blueprint for the new homes, schools, roads, community and leisure facilities and other infrastructure across Wokingham borough for many years.

Our executive is set to agree a public consultation on Friday, 12 November. This should run from 22 November to 17 January and everyone is urged to take part.

Unlike the previous draft Local Plan, which we consulted on last year, we aren’t proposing a new town of about 15,000 homes at Grazeley. This is no longer achievable following an unexpected extension of the emergency planning zone around AWE Burghfield to include that area.

Instead, we’re suggesting a revised plan which reflects preferences expressed in earlier consultations for most new development to be focussed in carefully planned major new communities, allowing suitable infrastructure to be provided.

By sharing your views, you can help us carry on building thriving, vibrant communities for generations to come. The consultation will open 22 November and run until 17 January.
