Help shape more active lifestyles

We’d like you to tell us how active you are – or what stops you from moving. Your answers will help us create a strategy to make physical activity more accessible for all borough residents.
Leading a more active life can help us be healthier and happier. It can mean we’re less likely to have major problems such as heart disease, cancer or depression. The benefits can be significant and, according to research, can add up to a 30% lower risk of early death.
Whether you simply love walking, spending time active in the garden or are training for a marathon, we want to understand:
- What you do to be physically active
- Where are you physically active
- How important is it to you
- The barriers you face
- What would help you be more active?
Your responses will help us identify people’s different habits and barriers as we work to enable every resident to be more active.
Early engagement – March and April 2026
Thank you to the 747 of you who took the time to share your experiences, ideas and priorities. Your responses came from across the borough. From people who were happy to share this information, we saw that more responses came from women (51%) than men (40%).
We heard too from older adults, with 44% of respondents aged 65+ and 18% aged 55–64. Younger adults were less well represented.
Your feedback has given us insight into what helps people in the borough to be active, the barriers they face and the improvements that could be introduced to make the biggest difference to being more active.
Your views from March and April supported the development of our draft strategy. It informed the ‘How will we achieve this?’ section under four key themes – active environments, active communities, active people and active systems. It’s also shaping an action plan to support residents to move more as part of everyday life.
