Public vote of shortlisted naming suggestions

9 February 2026 00:00 - 28 February 2026 00:00

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in our vehicle naming competition so far – you didn’t disappoint, making our shortlist selection a real challenge.

More than 600 of you submitted almost 1,100 suggestions for names for our new waste vehicles. From puns to local references and pure genius wordplay, your imagination has shone through.

Now it’s time for the next exciting step – the public vote.

Pick your favourite three lorry names and favourite two sweeper names from our shortlists. The most popular three names* for lorries and two names* for sweepers will be selected to be proudly displayed when vehicles go into use in June as part of our new waste contract.

You can vote for your favourites until Friday 27 February, with winners contacted and announced in early March.

Rules for winning entries (*)

  • Each vote selects their three and two favourite names, respectively.
  • For lorries, the three most popular names put forward by children will win a school visit. The next three most popular overall will also be winners.
  • Winning entries from children will be contacted via their parents and school to organise a visit.
  • For sweepers, the two most popular names will be chosen as the winners.
  • If any shortlisted suggestions are most popular, and were put forward by more than one child, the ‘winner’ will be drawn out of a hat.
