Give us your views on our draft local cycling and walking infrastructure plan

To respond to the survey, please scroll further down this page. Alternatively, please see the text below for more information.

We want to make it easier for you to walk and cycle around the borough, in line with the Government's goal of making walking and cycling the natural choice for short journeys.

To achieve this, we're developing a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) - a strategic document which looks at how you're currently travelling so that we can work out the best places to improve paths and other infrastructure ideally over the next 10 years.

This is key to our goals of tackling the climate emergency and improving air quality by reducing vehicle emissions, as well as improving people's health by making it easier to travel actively.

In March last year, we asked you to tell us about the things that make it harder for you to walk and cycle. Now we want to know what you think about our draft cycling and walking networks and the improvements that might make these better.

The finished plan will be completed in the autumn but will always be open to updates and new ideas. It will outline the most popular active travel routes and propose measures in places where the community wants them, subject to funding and further consultation.

We'd stress that this is a "high-level" vision for the kinds of schemes that could be introduced but none are set in stone and no funding is allocated, although publishing the plan means the Government is more likely to offer this. There'd be further consultation before anything went ahead.

To find out more, view proposals for each area and answer our survey by scrolling down this page. We are accepting comments until the revised deadline of Sunday, 2 October, in response to concerns that some people experienced difficulty responding when the survey was hosted on an external website.

If you commented before the deadline was revised, you don't have to do it again as your feedback will have been recorded.

Preparing the routes

1 September 2021 - 30 June 2022

We spent months auditing the routes, preparing improvement plans for specific areas and having further talks with interested parties to make sure we got the network and the routes right.
