Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy

We're committed to supporting the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable transport future.
As part of this commitment, we've developed our Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Strategy that sets out the actions we need to take to support the transition to EVs, ahead of the phase out dates of new petrol and diesel vehicles.
As well as public transport and active travel, EVs play an important role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions from transport, improving air quality and tackling climate change.
Our strategy seeks to complement the growth in private EV chargepoint provision and help to fill any gaps left by the private market. It will be instrumental in us getting funding from the government for new electric vehicle infrastructure.
This will build on the successes of securing grants such as the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS) and the Local Electric Vehicle Inffrastructure (LEVI), which support the rollout of residential chargepoints in areas with limited off-street parking.
We want to support residents and businesses to make the switch to EVs by removing barriers where possible, which includes a good charging network.
Have your say
At the bottom of the page you'll find a copy of the full strategy and a survey to complete.
Your feedback will help shape our proposals and ensure that we have a strategy that works for our communities.
We want to know what is important to you when you charge your vehicle in a public place, the places you need chargepoints and any other needs to consider so that people in the borough have equal and adequate access to the right EV charging infrastructure.

What happens next?
Feedback from this consultation will be fed into the final strategy, which we’re aiming to adopt at the end of 2024.
Once the final strategy is adopted, it will remain a live document and will be reviewed regularly as technology advances and new national policies and funding streams are brought forward.
