Constitution Review

Thank you to everyone who took part in our public consultation on the constitution.

A survey ran from 18 September to 17 October and asked for feedback on how easy residents felt it was to engage with the council and play a part in the decisions that are made.

The constitution determines how the council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable.

It also sets out how you as a residents, as well as our partners and stakeholders, can influence decisions. Some of these processes are required by law, while others are discretionary and for the council to decide on.

The constitution is divided into 13 sections that set out the basic rules concerning our business, as well as more detailed procedures and codes of practice. It explains the rights of citizens and how the key parts of the council operate.

You can view our existing constitution on our website.

An overview of the survey results is available in the document at the bottom of this page (Constitution Review consultation overview.PDF).

As you will see from the overview, we have collated the responses and set out targets for improvement based on your feedback, as well as providing useful links to sources of information.
