Our new Local Transport Plan: healthier, green and safer transport

We're updating our Local Transport Plan, an official document guiding how we improve footways, cycle lanes, roads, bus services and other ways of getting around for years to come.

This will offer more chances to leave the car at home, especially for shorter journeys, helping us to reduce air pollution and tackle the climate emergency while helping you to live more healthily.

It aims to improve access to public spaces like parks and leisure centres, as this is good for people's physical and mental wellbeing, and also to workplaces and local services.

Specific goals include reducing serious or fatal road traffic collisions, less traffic congestion, more active journeys in built-up areas, and better travel options in more rural areas.

As well as tackling your priorities, the Local Transport Plan will ensure we're complying with national policies and help us get funding from the Government towards improvements.

Read the draft Local Transport Plan

You can read the draft Local Transport Plan by clicking the links below and then take the survey at the bottom of the page.

You can also read the evidence base, which details the research carried out to put this plan together, and the results of our engagement work in spring 2023.

We've also attached our sustainability appraisal, which looks at the possible environmental, social and economic impacts and how we could reduce them.

Our survey invites you to comment on the Local Transport Plan, and in particular the themes, objectives and action plan.

We'll take all your feedback into account as we make final amendments to the plan, which we're hoping to adopt in late summer 2024.
