Piggott and Traffic Gridlock

From "Piggott School"

Go to the project

There is an ongoing problem with the delivery and collection of children to the senior Piggott School.

Twice a day, morning and evening, the A321 that passes the school is blocked by cars waiting to deliver or collect children to/from this school.

The tailback on the A4 can extend beyond the Wee Waif roundabout and to exit the village on the A321 is impossible due to tailback of cars waiting to turn right into the school. I have even seen a mother drive north on the wrong side of the road to jump the queue.

I am concerned that this situation may one day prevent emergency vehicles accessing Wargrave or beyond due to this congestion.

For this reason I object to any further expansion of the Piggott School until this issue is addressed.

Whilst recognising the need to accommodate increasing numbers a proper review of the traffic situation should be undertaken. As has been said at morning arrival times and afternoon departure times the traffic through the village and on the A4 comes to a halt due to cars and coaches queuing to get into the school. Also vehicles leaving the school onto the A321 force their way out to turn left or right. If development on school grounds can take place there should be safer and less disruptive access roads.
