From "Remembering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II"

Go to the project

In 2012 three of us were invited to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. We all worked as volunteers for the charity Daisy's Dream, based in Twyford. After a lovely lunch and a tour of the gardens we all assembled on the main lawn for the Queen to pass between us. Suddenly we were approached by a member of staff who invited us to the centre of the lawn. We suddenly realised we had been chosen to be presented to the Queen. I shall never forget the look of concern on her face as we explained the work of the charity, and the questions she asked. It was if we were the only people there. When you consider the millions of people she had already met over so many years in so many situations, to make us feel that we and our charity and the children and families we try to help were of utmost interest and importance to her showed just what an amazing and caring person she was. It is a day I shall never forget
