Overnight grid electricity is greener ( mostly nuclear + wind ) and cheaper. Daytime grid electricity is less green ( topped up with gas ) and more expensive.
With the right tariff, a home battery can be charged overnight and used to (partially) power the house during the day.
Net result is greener and cheaper electricity.
