At Buckingham Palace to receive my MBE from the queen

I was extremely proud and privileged to meet the queen when she awarded me an MBE. We were all “trained” as to precisely what we had to do and what we should call her majesty.
It got to my time to approach her and nerves simply took over. Got to her and immediately forgot the protocol on speaking to her but that had no effect on her.
To this day I cannot remember our conversation except one bit. She asked me where I can from and my response was “just down the road from where you live just outside Reading”.
She came across with a warmth that I had not experienced before or since
