Our support for Ukraine

We know many Wokingham Borough residents want to support Ukraine and help those who have had to flee following the Russian invasion.

The Government has now launched its Homes for Ukraine scheme which will offer a route to those who want to come to the UK who have someone here willing to provide them with a home. It will enable individuals, charities, community groups and businesses to volunteer accommodation and provide a route to safety for Ukrainians, and their immediate family members, forced to escape their homeland.

As a borough council, we have been working closely with the Ukraine Community Centre in Reading and have provided them with additional storage space for donations, but they are not seeking more donations at this time.

Local collection points have been inundated with donated items and we are currently recommending people donate online to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC), which is an established group of major charities experienced in supporting during crisis.

The government has also set up a website with advice on how people can best show support and help.

For any of our residents who wish to offer a message of support or a prayer, All Saints Church (RG40 1UE) has set up a book for these to be added; all are welcome to visit the Church to write a message.
