Moving Traffic Offences (MTOs)

A moving traffic offence (MTO) is when a driver breaks a rule designed to keep traffic moving safely and smoothly, such as going through a ‘no entry’ sign, making a banned turn, stopping in a yellow box when the exit is blocked, or driving in a restricted area.

These rules are enforced by local councils like Wokingham Borough Council using cameras that capture drivers who do not follow the rules, and a penalty charge can then be issued.

The aim of enforcement at each location is to improve road safety, tackle congestion, increase compliance with the rules of the road, support public transport by improving journey times and improve air quality.
