Wokingham Borough Local Plan 2045

The Government has changed the planning system to increase the number of houses that local councils need to plan for. As a result, we’ve started work on our next local plan earlier than anticipated.

In recent years, we've been working to put in place new policies through a local plan called the Local Plan Update (LPU). It's on track for adoption in the first half of 2027 and will guide planning decisions while we work on our new local plan. Sites already allocated for development under our LPU will help meet a large proportion of our expected housing need in the new plan.

As a preliminary step in our Local Plan 2045, we chose to hold a call for suggested development sites earlier this year, to help us understand how and where development might be managed in our new plan.

Under the new plan-making system, the first statutory step in the creation of a new plan is an early engagement exercise or scoping consultation, inviting people to give their views on key issues, opportunities and priorities.

No strategies or places to develop have been decided for our Local Plan 2045. Those choices will be made later and informed by evidence and environmental assessment. Read a timetable for our Local Plan 2045.
